Like the first volume, the Gaither Vocal Band's Reunion, Vol. 2 is a fiery collection of gospel numbers that will penetrate even the hardest of hearts. Gospel visionary Bill Gaither and his brothers in song — Wes Hampton, David Phelps, Michael English, and Mark Lowry — gather at the foot of the cross to worship and praise the Lord. Like Reunion, Vol. 1, the second installment features guest appearances from many of the GVB's past members, including Larnelle Harris, Jim Murray, and Jon Mohr. Guy Penrod and Russ Taff add their unmistakable voices to a soul-lifting reading of When the Rains Come, a harmony and string-soaked track. On Build an Ark, GVB alumni Marshall Hall and Buddy Mullins jump back aboard the good ship Gaither for an island-flavored adventure.
If Jimmy Buffett were to cross over to the world of gospel music, this is probably how he'd sound. A walking bass guitar anchors the set-closing Oh! What a Time, a happy-to-be-in-the-presence-of-the-Lord dustup. The current members of the GVB join together for the rousing spiritual and sing their hearts out as dozens of hands and feet clap and stomp behind them. Gospel music rarely gets much better than this. Running time is aproximately 1 hour and 14 minutes.
